Ah, socks! You can’t do without them these days. Low-cut, high-cut, mid-calf, ankle socks or invisible, you name it. Socks are an integral part of our lives. But what about the different qualities and materials of socks? Some will tell you that the most versatile are cotton socks. But why cotton socks?
Cotton fibers
Cotton is renowned for its strength and durability.Cotton fibres are naturally soft and fine. Grown for over 5,000 years, cotton has a proven track record. Cotton is soft, warm and comfortable to the touch. That’s why cotton socks are an economical and ecological choice, because they last longer than the less robust synthetic alternatives! Cotton fibres are airy and let air pass through them, which helps moisture to evaporate more easily.
Why choose cotton socks: No synthetic fibres
Unlike synthetic fibres, cotton is not prone to static electricity, so there are no discharges when you close the car door, and no discomfort. Choosing this material is an opportunity to choose a natural and biodegradable material, in particular by reducing the microplastic pollution associated with synthetic materials such as polyester.
Cotton in every style
Cotton is easy to print, colour, dye and even knit, making it suitable for a wide range of uses. From sports socks to dress socks and fun, colourful socks, there’s no end to the pairs of cotton socks we’ll be wearing!
Why choose cotton socks: a hypoallergenic material
Cotton is naturally hypoallergenic, making it an excellent choice for people with sensitive skin or who are prone to various allergies! Compared to other synthetic materials, cotton is less likely to cause skin irritations.
Cotton socks adapt to the temperature
Cotton is a moisture regulator. This material is capable of absorbing sweat in summer and allowing moisture to evaporate quickly in winter. And yes, cotton socks keep feet dry and feel cool.
How can I make cotton socks last?
- Wash inside out: if your socks are printed, we recommend turning them inside out to preserve the designs.
- Don’t dry them in the sun: to protect the colours, but above all the fibres!
- Avoid tumble-drying: High tumble-dryer temperatures can damage your socks.
- Use mild detergents: To preserve the texture of a pair of socks, it’s best to use a detergent-free detergent.
- Put your pairs of socks away: Putting socks away isn’t just a hassle, it’s also a way of preventing them from becoming misshapen.
- Don’t overload the washing machine drum: Washing all your clothes will be all the better for it.
- Pick up your socks: Even if some nails are devastating, keep them short and darn those nasty holes. There’s nothing complicated about this, just take your time and don’t buy a new pair of socks. Darned socks are far from finished!
- Cold washing: Wash your socks cold or warm rather than at high temperature. Water that’s too hot can damage cotton fibres and ruin colours.
By following these simple tips, you can extend the life of your cotton socks and continue to enjoy their comfort!
